Forensicare Wayfinding and signage

Forensicare engaged Envelope to develop a wayfinding solution for the carpark at Thomas Embling Hospital, its secure forensic mental health hospital located in Fairfield.

Our Approach

Forensicare and Statewide Disability Services share this busy carpark 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. It is a secure facility with complex shared parking arrangements. The existing signage system was both antiquated and in need of an audit.

Forensicare supplied Envelope with its external consultant’s traffic management report but we also spent many hours on site surveying both vehicle and pedestrian movements to inform our wayfinding strategy.

Wide ranging consultation with Forensicare’s senior management and administration staff was measured against the research findings with a detailed report submitted outlining the new wayfinding strategy. Envelope recommended that major precinct buildings be delineated by an alphanumeric system to help guide visitors and staff to their destinations.

Influenced by the architectural fabric of the precinct buildings a simple and robust I-beam is the primary sign carrier. Front panels are constructed of a single sheet of rolled steel which elegantly meets rear panels. Flush fixings are kept to a minimum delivering a streamlined appearance for this industrial materials palette.

Envelope worked within Forensicare’s existing brand identity to deliver a coherent and legible information hierarchy for a lasting design solution.

Our detailed documentation package allows Forensicare to confidently manage tendering for production and installation.
